Founded in 1938 by Benjamin Shyer, Eastern States Eyewear’s success story is more than a series of product introductions. Co-president sons Roger and Paul Shyer have developed the company to fulfill its mission of delivering innovative concepts in product and promotion to the quality, high fashion optical niche.
From modest beginnings, the company has evolved to the exclusive importing of international collections of fashion eyewear for men and women. Ultimately it has grown to its current position as exclusive U.S. distributor of five prominent fashion eyewear collections and co-distribution of the world renowned Cazal Eyewear.
Having just celebrated its 70th anniversary, ESE’s association with the phenomenon known as “CAZZIE FEVER” catapulted it to prominence in the early 1980’s. Introduced in 1976, the early Cazal collection was embraced by inner city youth who quickly made the bold, gold trimmed zyl designs a necessary status accessory. Cazal has continued to grow, capturing the attention of discriminating men and women with a preference for exclusive, elegant eyewear that delivers high visual impact. Even today, Cazal’s classic styles remain in demand, and are an influence in design throughout the industry.
Co-President Paul Shyer sums up the company philosophy as the company moves into the New Millennium. “At Eastern States, eyewear design is an art form. We work continuously to create a superlative product, in every way. Yet, we have also consistently managed to achieve a certain balance that is rarely met. That is, the development of singular, fashion collections that flatter and appeal to a wide range of loyal, design savvy customers.”
